Gazza publicly revealed alcoholism problems, admitted to US treatment centre

Former England midfielder Paul Gascoigne has been put in the US treatment centre after his friends (Gary Lineker, Ronnie Irani and Piers Morgan among them) have agreed on paying the £6,000 per week fees.

The 45-year-old Gazza had spells with Tottenham, Lazio and Newcastle. After retiring from football he has been struggling with alcohol addiction.

The friends have reacted almost immediately after watching indisposed and shaking Gascoigne at a charity in Northampton where he has publicly revealed his alcohol problems.

Former England cricketer Ronnie Irani, Gascoigne’s friend said: “A serious addict can only be helped if they really want to be. It is my understanding that as of approximately 10 o’clock Monday morning Paul asked for that help. Then and only then could a select group of his friends begin to put into operation the latest phase in a long fight to rid him of his demons. It’s his only chance — but at least now he’s going to get that chance.”
