Gibraltar is planning to become a full UEFA member
On Monday Gibraltar was admitted as a provisional member of European football’s governing body and UEFA Congress in London may turn the Gibraltar’s dream into reality in May 2013.
British colony considers itself ready to use its potential and develop its national team. A 2-1 victory over Bury in January 2012 and a 3-1 win against an England C team in November 2011, a 2-1 defeat to Rochdale in July 2011 and a 3-0 victory over the Faroe Islands in March 2011 brought hope for Gibraltarians so that they have decided that they have a chance to make a claim about themselves.
There are about 100 football teams in Gibraltar, which is just 6.8 km2 and its population is over 29.000.
Spain is worried that if Gibraltar represents its football team internationally, that could be a strong impact on the Basques and Catalonians to gain similar official status for their football teams.
