Gus Poyet named the new Sunderland manager
Sunderland appoint Gus Poyet as the new head coach.
The former Real Zaragoza, Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur player takes the job with immediate effect and will relace an interim coach Kevin Ball who has guided the team since Paolo Di Canio’s sacking last month. The Uruguayan specialist helped Brighton and Hove Albion to make it to the Championship and led them to promotion play-off last season. Despite solid performance, he was released at the end of the campaign.
Sunderland have only managed to earn one point in seven games so far and lie bottom of the table. The club are yet to play against Southampton in the League Cup at the end of October.
