International friendy: Fred scores late goal to hold Russia to a 1-1 draw
Russia saw win slipping from the fingers, as Fred netted a goal in the dying stages of the friendly encounter to earn a 1-1 draw.
Viktor Faitzulin scored the opener in the 73rd minute of the game after some horrendous defending from Brazil to put Russia on course for their first ever win over the South America. However the superb performance delivered by substitute Hulk was enough to hold Russia to a draw. The Zenit St Petersburg striker set up a goal for Fred in the 89th minute to deny Russia win.
Russia boss Fabio Capello revealed he was disappointed with the result and blamed the fan, who invaded the pitch several minutes before Brazil equalized, for the team losing concentration. He said: “I am happy with the way we played, we showed a lot of team spirit,” the Italian told a packed media room. My only disappointment is that after a supporter came on the pitch my players lost their concengtration and against Brazil you cannot lose your concentration.”
