Ireland goalkeeper Shay Given announced his retirement from international football

‘After a lot of thought and consideration, I have made the most difficult decision to retire from international football,’ - the 36-year-old wrote on his Twitter.

The Football Association of Ireland confirmed the news.

Shay Given has a 16-year long international career and won 125 caps for the Republic of Ireland.

Trapattoni said that he is thankful to Given for his efforts. Trapattoni understands the difficult decision that Shay had made, and appreciates all of his efforts during his international career.

‘It has been a pleasure to work with Shay Given during my time with the team. I wish him the very best in his future.’ – Giovanni Trapattoni told the FAI website.
