Italian weekend: Juve retain top spot, Inter get victory on a plate

Juventus 3-0 Torino

Neighbours Juventus and Torino had their Turin derby on Saturday night ended in a splendid 3-0 win of the runaway leaders. Claudio Marchisio cut a brilliant figure scoring a second-half brace and Sebastian Giovinco made his mark in the 67th minute building an unassailable lead over ten-men Torino.

Internazionale 1-0 Palermo

Inter got another three points in a clash against Palermo on Sunday. However, it was not the victory awaited from the club of their caliber. Inter had an array of scoring chances throughout all the match but Palermo’s goalkeeper Samir Ujkani was a hard nut to crack and kept a clean sheet against the rivals. But the goalie raised eyebrows when his teammate defender Santiago Garcia incidentally netted an own goal in the 74th minute giving the Nerazzuri three points on a plate. Inter is the third on 31 points and Palermo mired near the bottom of the table.

Catania 1-3 Milan

Catania took an early lead via Nicola Legrottaglie’s terrific header 11 minutes into the match. The Rossoneri were bullied by the hosts throughout the first half but Allegri’s men got a second wind shortly after the break when Stephan El Shaarawy leveled in the 53rd minute. Prince Boateng snapped up the lead with his magnificent strike from almost 23 meters just three minutes after his teammate’s goal. El Shaarawy completed a brace in the closing moments of the game lifting Milan up to the seventh position in the table and earning a more positive outlook for the club. His brace, meanwhile, makes El Shaarawy the top Serie A scorer with 12 goals, 2 goals ahead of Napoli’s striker Edinson Cavani.

Napoli 5-1 Pescara

The Azzuri wrapped up a comfortable 5-1 win over bottom Pescara on Sunday. Two braces from Gokhan Inler and Edinson Cavani, and a goal from Marek Hamsik earned another three points for the club. They are still second with 33 points breathing down the neck of the leaders Juventus who stay top on 35 points.
