La Liga results: Atletico struggle to reproduce early season form

Diego Simeone’s men are behind Real Madrid in the race for the second place as they are held to a 0-0 draw at Getafe on Sunday.

The guests had far better chances to open the score in the first half as Radamel Falcao shot wide of the target from close range. With minutes before the break Falcao had another good chance in front of the goal, yet headed into the arms of Jordi Codina. After the break Getafe were denied a claim for a penalty before Mario Suarez was sent-off for a second yellow card just 20 minutes to go as the player handled the ball to stem a Getafe counter attack.

Tem men Atletico continued to press forward with Falcao forcing a good save form Codina after twisting and turning inside the box, yet Getafe kept the score till the final whistle.
