La Liga Round 15: Messi’s record, high-scoring Falcao and other events

Betis 1-2 FC Barcelona
Lionel Messi recorded the largest amount of goals scored in a calendar year after his two goals in a 2-1 win over Betis at Estadio Benito Villamarin on Sunday. He netted an opener on the 16th minute and just ten minutes after he notched his 86th goal, thus breaking Gerd Mueller’s record set in 1972. One goal from Betis Castro followed on the 39th minute.

This year the Argentine international scored 74 goals for Barca and 12 for Argentina and after that weekend success he recorded 191 La Liga goals in his career.

Valladolid 2-3 Real Madrid CF
Real Madrid came from behind two times and finally scratched a 3-2 win over Valladolid at the Zorilla stadium on Saturday evening. Manucho opened the deadlock on the 7th minute but Karim Benzema cancelled it out in five minutes, Manucho added a second for Valladolid. Mesut Özil leveled the score right at half-time mark and secured a third for Real Madrid on the 72nd minute.

Atletico Madrid 6-0 Deportivo La Coruña
The Colombian international, nicknamed The Tiger, was the chief protagonist for Atletico Madrid as he managed to score five goals. Atletico smashed Deportivo by six to nil, Diego Costa opened the scoring and Radamel Falcao netted two goals in the first half and then added three more in the second half, thus he notched 16 goals in his 15 matches. Atletico Madrid are five points ahead their city rivals Real Madrid.

Espanyol 2-2 Sevilla
Alvaro Negredo’s injury-time goal made it 2-2 draw against Espanyol at Cornella-El Prat. The hosts got the lead after 13 minutes, Ivan Rakitic made it 1-1 and Simão returned the lead to the hosts on the 60th minute. But Espanyol didn’t manage to earn such a desired win and stay close to relegation.

Real Sociedad 1-1 Getafe
Angel Lafita scored a late goal for Getafe and Carlos Martinez managed to secure a point for Sociedad in added time.

Malaga 4-0 Granada
Malaga overwhelmed Granada via goals from Joaquin, Javier Saviola, Ignacio Camacho and Roque Santa Cruz. With three points from that match they stay fourth in the table and Granada is at risk of relegation.

Osasuna 0-1 Valencia CF
Roberto Soldado’s goal scored 10 minutes into the second half ensured three points for Valencia.

Levante 4-0 Mallorca
Mallorca has twelve winless matches in a row. Levante earned their comfortable win via goals from Martins, Navarro, Garcia Santos and Iborra.

Athletic Bilbao 1-0 Celta de Vigo
Athletic Bilbao claimed a narrow win due to Aritz Aduriz’s 34-minute goal.
