La Liga weekend: a bitter disappointment for Real Madrid

Benat Etxebarria gave Real Betis a shock 1-0 victory over Real Madrid in Seville. Benat scored the only goal of the game on the 17th minute and despite all the attacking efforts of Real Madrid, the hosts stayed at defense firm. Jose Mourinho’s men are left disappointed with their fourth place in the table, eleven points behind the leader.

Meanwhile Barcelona stretched their lead with one more impressive win, beating the hosting side Levante on Sunday evening 4-0. Four second-half strikes, two from Messi, one from Iniesta and Fábregas, secured Barca three more pointe, making it 37 out of 39 possible.

Barcelona retain their three-point lead over Atletico Madrid, who showed the same result, winning Sevilla 4-0 due to goals from Radamel Falcao, Koke, Miranda and Emir Spahic, who netted an own-goal on the 40th minute.

Malaga goes fourth, four points behind Real Madrid, after they have claimed a 4-0 win against Valencia.

The other results of the weekend:

Real Sociedad 0-0 Osasuna
Rayo Vallecano 2-0 Mallorca
Valladolid 1-0 Ciudad de Murcia
Espanyol 0-2 Getafe
Athletic Bilbao 1-1 Deportivo
