Lampard clinches a one-year deal with Chelsea
Frank Lampard’s contract saga came to end with the news the 34-year-old midfielder put pen to paper on a new one-year deal that will keep him at the club until 2014.
The midfielder, who has recently became club’s new record goal scorer with 203 goals to his name, would have been out of contract in June. However Lampard remained committed to fulfilling his duties and managed to impress club’s owner Roman Abramovich with his brilliant form and high-quality performances. Despite implementing the policy of offloading ageing players on a free transfer, Abramovich agreed to extend Lampard’s stay at the Stamford Bridge for one more year.
Lampard revealed he is happy to prolong his stay. He said: “I’m absolutely delighted. Everybody knows I always maintained the dream was to stay at Chelsea. We’ve been talking for ages and even though it went on for quite a period it was always amicable.
“I want to thank Mr Abramovich for everything he’s done in making the dream a reality. I love this club, the staff, the players and especially the supporters, who have treated me fantastically since the day I arrived. The thought of helping the club to more success in the forthcoming years is all I ever wanted. I couldn’t be happier,” he added.
