Lampard edges closer to century of England caps

Frank Lampard is looking forward to his next England cap in an international friendly against Brazil, as he edges closer to the century of England caps.

Chelsea midfielder had an excellent season, becoming the Blues’ all-time top goal scorer, lifting Europa League trophy and extending his stay at Stamford Bridge for one more season.

However he revealed he is relishing the prospect of joining his Chelsea teammate Ashley Cole and Liverpool Steven Gerrard in England’s centurion’s club.

Cole started England’s game against Republic of Ireland on Wednesday with skipper’s armband after becoming just seventh player to reach the milestone of 100 England caps, while Lampard remains four games behind an elite group of players, including David Beckham and Bobby Moore.

Lampard said: “I am on 96, I have been around for an awful long time. I saw Stevie (Steven Gerrard) get that gold cap, which was well deserved, and then Ash last night. If I can get there and can stay involved in future games then I would be a very proud man if I did reach that.

“Ash certainly deserves the accolades. To get 100 caps, to start every game and to play at the quality and level he has played for such a long period of time, he deserves everything. I think the fans gave him the very right reception, he deserved the moment and the atmosphere was brilliant,” he added.
