Liverpool close to signing Mkhitaryan from Shakhtar

It looks like Liverpool are close to winning the battle for the signature of the highly-rated Shakhtar Donetsk midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan.

The 24-year old Armenian has delivered a series of impressive performances for the Ukrainian side last season, scoring 25 goals. Such an extraordinary prolificacy for the player on his position has attracted the interest of numerous top clubs, including Juventus and PSG. However Liverpool are believed to be on the verge of stealing the player from under their noses, as they have agreed a transfer fee of £23million for Mkhitaryan. The midfielder flew to Liverpool to pass his medical with a view to completed the deal by the end of the week.

The Reds boss Brendan Rodgers will fund the deal partly through the sale of flop Andy Carroll to West Ham United for £15 million.
