Liverpool set to hijack Galatasaray swoop for Sneijder

Galatasaray have recently agreed a transfer fee and personal terms with out-of-favor Inter Milan star Wesley Sneijder to bring him to the Türk Telekom Arena.

The Dutchman was widely expected to sign for a Turkish side in the next few days, however Liverpool have made a sensational 11th hour bid to hijack Sneijder’s move. Sneijder has stalled his negotiations with Gala as he is keen on a switch to Premier League if any club could afford him.

Daily Mirror reports that Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers is determined to lure the 28-year-old player to the Anfield in a bid to partner Sneijder with Gerrard in midfield. The perspective of bringing Sneijder to Liverpool undoubtedly excited the fans who have been disappointed with the club’s recent ineffectual transfer policy.

The Dutchman’s £220,000-a-week wage demands remain the major stumbling block. However taking into account his low transfer fee (£8.2million) Liverpool could land Sneijder comparatively cheaply.
