The England international Rickie Lambert joined Premier League runner-ups, Liverpool.

Southampton agree a £4m offer from Liverpool for their star striker Rickie Lambert. The Three Lions forward was eager to rejoin his youth club from Merseyside and the bosses of The Saints did not stand in his way. Lambert spent five years with the club and scored 117 goals in 235 matches in all tournaments. After leaving Liverpool at the age of 15, Rickie played for Blackpool, Macclesfield Town, Stockport County, Rochdale and Bristol Rovers before moving to Southampton in 2009, where he proved to be a deadly striker. Together with the club he earned promotions to Championship and Premier League and earned his first call-up to the national team at the age of 31.

Lambert, who will now add to Liverpool’s attacking flair, told the reporters:

“I can’t believe it. I’ve loved this club all my life. I left here 17 years ago - and I haven’t stopped loving it since.
“I have always dreamt of playing for Liverpool, but I did kind of think the chance of playing for them had gone. I didn’t think the chance would come”.
