Liverpool target Twente Douglas

Liverpool target Twente Douglas

Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers is weighting up the possibility of landing defender Douglas on a free transfer.

Rodgers considers Douglas to be an ideal replacement to legendary defender Jamie Carragher who is set to retire at the end of the season. The 25-year-old Brazilian, whose deal at Twente is set to expire in summer, has been linked with a move to Tottenham and Inter Milan last season, however the deal has never materialized. With Rodgers having a limited budget of around £25 million to spend in summer adding quality player Douglas on a free could be an excellent option. Douglas holds a Dutch passport after playing in Holland six years and is expected to have no problems as regards a work permit.

Liverpool boss is seriously concerned with the weakness of his defensive line, as besides Carragher they could also lose Skrtel, whose future at the club is remaining in the dark.
