Man Utd set to make a switch for Benfica Garay

Manchester United moved closer to landing highly-rated Benfica defender Ezequil Garay according to reports from Portugal.

United are about to complete their second transfer of the summer window, following the arrival of Uruguay starlet Guillermo Varela. Taking into account that Rio Ferdinand is not getting any younger, Smalling and Jones being plagued with injuries last season and Vidic’s future remaining in the dark, New Red Devils boss David Moyes is determined to strengthen the defensive line.

The 26-year-old Argentinian has been linked with a move to Old Trafford for about a year and now it looks like the deal is about to be finalized. Garay has been ever present in Benfica’s first XI this season, having made 47 appearances in all competitions and helping his side to reach Europa League final.

It is to be recalled United have snapped up 20-year-old Uruguayan Guillermo Varela earlier this week.
