Man Utd track Real Madrid Varane

Manchester United are hot on the trail of highly-rated Real Madrid defender Raphael Varane.

Sir Alex Ferguson tried to land the 19-year-old centre-back back in 2011, when he was playing for the French side Lens. However the player preferred moving to La Liga giants Real Madrid. Since then the defender has impressed both the fans and pundits with his mature performances for the senior side both in La Liga and Champions League. Currently he is considered a firm first-choice player at Santiago Bernabeu. He has also won his first international call-up.

Varane has been included into the first IX by Jose Mourinho for the Champions League last-16 against Manchester United. Fergie has instructed his scouts to watch the player in action and the reports have impressed his to such an extent, he became keen on prospect of adding the player to his squad. Ferguson considers Varane to be a perfect replacement to ageing Rio Ferdinand. However Real Madrid are unlikely to settle for anything less than £26 million.
