Manchester United are off to a winning start as they outclass Robbie Keane’s team in the first game under Louis Van Gaal. The Dutch specialist fielded arguably the strongest side from the starting whistle and presented a new, pretty much a 3-5-2 formation that he used with Netherlands in Brazil. Chris Smalling, Phil Jones and Jonny Evans all played in defence, Ander Herrera and Darren Fletcher paired in midfield, Luke Shaw and Antonio Valencia started as wingers, while Juan Mata assisted Danny Welbeck and Wayne Rooney up front. Welbeck opened the scoring after just thirteen minutes and Wayne Rooney netted a brace before the break. At half-time Van Gaal substituted all the players but Herrera and Fletcher, and debutant Reece James, who replaced Luke Shaw, scored a double. With minutes left to play, United outcast Ashley Young added a brace to complete a 7-0 drubbing.
