Martin Skrtel signed new long-term contract with Liverpool
The length of contract hasn’t been disclosed yet, it is only known that it is ‘long term’.
Martin Skrtel joined the Reds in 2008 from Zenit St Petersburg and since then he earned 175 caps and in 2011/12 he was voted Player of the Season.
Rumors had it this summer that Manchester City and Fiorentina were interested in the 27-year-old Slovakian defender.
‘I have been here almost four and a half years and I have enjoyed that time here – myself and also my family – so there were no questions about whether to stay or to leave,’ Skrtel told Liverpool FC official website.
‘For me it’s a great thing to play for Liverpool. I am proud to play for Liverpool with these great players – probably some of the best players in the world.
‘I hope I can create history at this club and that the fans will always remember me – that’s my target for the future.
‘The last two seasons were really good for me – probably the best two seasons of my career.
‘If I can repeat the performances of the last two years this season I can be happy.’

What on Earth is he talking about??? "Some of the best players in the world" - those ones struggling for a Europa League spot??? I recall Paolo Maldini's words: 'You can only become a great player if you play in the greatest clubs at the moment'...
Is not Gerrard a great player? I think he deserves to be in world's top 10.
