Martinez is close to taking over Everton

Roberto Martinez is set to be unveiled as Everton boss within 24 hours.

According to the latest reports, the Spaniard has reached an agreement with the Toffees on a three-year deal, after he wowed Everton board with his managerial abilities at Wigan, helping his side to lift FA Cup trophy this season.

After considering all the options available to him, Everton chairman Bill Kenwright has made a final decision on Monday. He contacted Wigan chairman Dave Whelan to conduct negotiations over the conditions he should meet to free Martinez from his contract.

Despite both sides having not yet agreed on amount of compensation, the principal decision has been made. It is expected that a figure of around £1.5million could satisfy both sides and allow completing the move within 24 hours.

Martinez has been touted as favourite to take vacant place at Everton since David Moyes left Goodison Park to replace Sir Alex Ferguson at Manchester United.
