Montpellier Yanga-Mbiwa joins Newcastle

Eurosport informs that Newcastle have completed the signing of Montpellier defender Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa Montpellier in a €7,5 million deal.

The 23-year-old Frenchman who is considered as a long-term replacement for the Magpies’ skipper Fabricio Collocini has signed five-and-a-half-year deal with the club. The arrival of Yanga-Mbiwa could hardly come at a better time taking into account Collocini’s intention to leave the club as soon as possible due to the ‘personal issues’. The Magpies are yet to convince their centre-back to stay at the club until the end of the season.

This is the second Newcastle signing in January. According to the recent reports the Toons have also agreed the terms for the transfer of Bordeaux striker Yoan Gouffran and Nancy defender Massadio Haidara which will expand the Gallic enclave at the St.James Park to 10 players (most of them are outfield players).
