Prandelli put faith in youth for France friendly test
Some of the yesterday’s international friendlies were really worth a watch. This was particularly relevant for the Italy-France match as there had always been an intense rivalry between these two countries.
Italy coach Cesare Prandelli introduced some fresh blood to the national side and gave the chance to the several talented players we did not know much of. In particular this was a special game for Verratti and Sirigu who had not spent much time in the national shirt.
Squadra azzurra played 4-3-3 featuring attacking trio Balotelli (Man City) - El Shaarawy (Milan) – Candreva (Lazio). Verratti (PSG), Montolivo (Milan) and Marchisio (Juventus) pulled the strings in the middle, while Maggio (Napoli), Chiellini (Juventus), Barzagli (Juventus), Balzaretti (Roma) played in the defense. Salvatore Sirigu (PSG) handled goalkeeping duties.
Ahead of the match France coach Didier Deschamps recognized that Italy was a “top quality rival” and called his players to retain the same performance as in 1-1 draw against Spain.
France came from behind with the goals from Valbuena (37’) and Gomis (67’) to outplay the young Italian team. El Shaarawy scored the only Italian goal on the 35th minute of the game.
