Premier League Matchday 28 results: Tottenham 2-1 Arsenal

Tottenham battled to a deserved 2-1 victory over Arsenal in their Premier League game at the White Hart Lane. Two almost identical goals from Bale and Lennon helped the Spurs to victory in the North London derby.

Gareth Bale put in yet another impressive performance for the Spurs and his goal will have been the icing on the cake for a Welsh wizard. The winger latched on to an excellent through pass from Sigurdsson and sent it past the stranded Szczesny to score an opener in the 37th minute of the game. The winger’s impressive display was in part down to the threat he caused on occasion to the opposition’s defense when he ran at them with the ball. However it was not one-man show, as the defensive pair Vertonghen and Dawson was on song that day, with both players superbly keeping at bay Arsenal’s attackers.

Lennon extended Tottenham lead just two minutes later, after beating the offside trap and rounding the keeper. Mertesacker has clawed one back with a header from a close-range in the 51st minute of the game.

The win allowed Tottenham to open up a seven-point lead over fifth-placed Arsenal with 10 games to go, with the Gunners’ suffering a huge damage to their Champions’ League ambitions.
