Premier League Matchday 29 results: Liverpool 3-2 Tottenham
Liverpool managed to secure their first win against the Premier League top-four opposition, edging the in-form Spurs by 3-2 at Anfield. Steven Gerrard netted a penalty in the closing 10 minutes of the game to revive Liverpool’s hopes of the Champions’ league fourth spot.
The Reds’ prolific striker Luis Suarez broke the deadlock with a deftly executed finish in the 21st minute of the game, before the brace from Spurs defender Vertonghen either side of half time put Tottenham in charge. Stewart Downing capitalized on an error from Kyle Walker in the 66th minute to score an equalizer, which proved a game changer. Liverpool skipper Steven Gerrard kept his head cool to score a spot-kick with eight minutes to go, as Luis Suarez has been brought down in the penalty area by Assou-Ekotto.
The result saw Liverpool moving to sixth place, within seven points of fourth-placed Chelsea, while Tottenham remain two points ahead of the third-placed Blues.
