Premier league Matchday 31 results: Sunderland 0-1 Manchester United
Titus Bramble’s own goal gave Premier League leaders Manchester United a well-deserved 1-0 away victory over struggling Sunderland.
Underdogs Sunderland never seemed close to upset, as Manchester United were dominating the game from the opening whistle to the final whistle. With Vaughan, Cattermole and Fletcher missing, the Black Cats clearly struggled to create chances which resulted in poor attacking display shown by Martin O’Neil’s side. The Red Devils took the lead when Robin van Persie’s strike deflected off Bramble’s thigh and filed into the back of the net in the 27th minute.
Man Utd’ defense had enough quality to keep Sunderland’s attackers at bay, with home side having not ever troubled De Gea.
The bad result against Manchester United has exhausted the patience of the Sunderland board, meaning Martin O’Neil was sacked. The Black Cats are currently finding themselves in the 16th place, just one point above the relegation zone and given their recent poor run of results they could face the agony of relegation this season.
Meanwhile United are topping the table 15 points above the closest rivals and need just 10 points in their last 8 games to guarantee they win the Premier League title this season.
