The Premier League opening round
Manchester City started the defense of the Premier League title with a dramatic victory over Southampton.
The Citizens striker Carlos Tevez scored first in the game, but the Saints’ players Rickie Lambert and Steven Davis responded with two goals and put Southampton ahead with 20 left.
Yet City did not give up and equaled through Edin Dzeko shot. And 10 minutes before time Nasri rescued the team from defeat, netting the ball from 10 yards out. City remains unbeaten in the Premier League in 30 home games.
The other contender for the title Chelsea easily won Wigan 2-0 with newly signed Eden Hazard showing impressive performance in his first game in the League. The midfielder was involved in two goals, assisting Ivanovic with a neat pass for Serbian to net the ball. Later Wigan’s defender Gary Caldwell made a vicious tackle of Hazard that resulted in penalty that was scored by Frank Lampard.
