Premier League results: Arsenal 1-1 Manchester United and other matches
Robin Van Persie marked his return to the Emirates stadium with a goal to help his side hold Arsenal to a 1-1 draw.
Walcott has broken the deadlock two minutes into the opening half with a typical cool finish from a tight angle after Rosicky’s pass, as Van Persie gave the ball in the middle of the pitch. Walcott had strayed clearly offside when Rosicky played the ball, however the flag stayed down and the winger scored his 12th goal of the season. Man Utd managed to level the game two minutes before half-time as Van Persie earned and scored a penalty.
The draw has given a major blow to Man Utd’s hopes of surpassing Chelsea’s record of 95 Premier League points. In equal measure, the result means Arsenal are just two points ahead of fifth-placed Tottenham, and one point behind third-placed Chelsea, both of whom have a game in hand.
Elsewhere, Liverpool put six goals past struggling Newcastle at St. James Park without suspended Luis Suarez, while Tottenham have just narrowly escaped a disappointing defeat at the hands of excellent Wigan side by courtesy of Boyce’s goal in the dying stages of the game.
