Premier League results: Arsenal 4-1 Wigan

Premier League results: Arsenal 4-1 Wigan

Recently crowned FA Cup champions Wigan lost the battle to avoid relegation, as they suffered a 4-1 defeat at the hands of Arsenal.

Podolski got Arsenal off to a flying start with a close-range header in the 11th minute. Maloney equalized with excellent free-kick right before the half-time whistle, sustaining Latics’ hopes of securing Premier League status. And yet Arsenal took advantage of some horrendous defending performed by Wigan players in the second half. As a result, Wigan eventually slipped to a 4-1 defeat, with Podolski (68), Walcott (63) and Ramsey (71) adding their names to score sheet.

The result means Wigan are currently 4 points behind 17th-placed Sunderland, losing any chances of survival this season. They became the first ever side to be losing top-flight status in the same season after claiming a major domestic trophy.

Elsewhere, managerless Man City outplayed Reading 2-0 by courtesy of goals from Aguero and Dzeko.
