Raul Meireles has been banned for 11 games

The Portuguese international has been accused of spitting at a referee and making homophobic gesture during a 2-1 loss against Galatasaray.

Ex-Liverpool & Chelsea player, Fenerbahçe’s this summer £8-million acquisition, denies that fact. Meireles said that he hadn’t split and didn’t know anything about the gesture and about a homophobic meaning of it. He added that he doesn’t have any prejudices and finds the accusations ‘outrageous and defamatory.’ Meireles will try to prove his innocence taking legal actions.

Before his move to the Turkish side he had contracts with Chelsea, Liverpool and from 2004 till 2010 played for Porto, winning Primeira Liga four seasons in a row.
