Real Madrid and Barcelona pulled off brilliantly this weekend

Real Madrid and Barcelona reap the fruits from their weekend La Liga games 29-30 September.

Sevilla FC took on powerhouse Barcelona on Saturday, 29 September. The hosts got off to a flying start of the clash as they ran riot during the entire first half. Piotr Trochowski fired a splendid ball in Barca’s goal in the 26th minute. And after Alvaro Negredo scored another goal in the opening moments of the second half, Tito Vilanova’s men came within a whisker of their first defeat in the season. However, the Catalonians bestirred themselves and Cesc Fabregas scored the opener for Barcelona and completed a brace in the dying minutes of the clash. The encounter seemed to be ended in a draw until David Villa, who has recently shaken off an injury, netted a winning goal in the added time securing Barca a stunning 3-2 away win.

On Sunday, 30 September, Real Madrid had their league game against Deportivo at home. Deportivo made a fine start through Riki’s opener in the 16th minute. However, their exultation did not last for long as the Portuguese idol Cristiano Ronaldo equalized in the 23d minute. 15 minutes later, Angel Di Maria ensured a two-goal advantage for his squad and in the closing moments of the first half Ronaldo scored his second goal thus building up a 3-1 lead over the rival. Pepe scored a header in the 66th minute and finally Cristiano Ronaldo completed his hat-trick through penalty in the 84th minute. A tremendous 5-1 victory of Real Madrid reduced the gap to 8 points in La Liga table.

Apart from these two spectacular frays a set of other La Liga games took place this weekend:
Valencia 2-0 Real Zaragoza
Málaga 4-0 Real Betis
Real Sociedad 2-0 Athletic Bilbao
Granada 2-1 Celta Vigo
Valladolid 6-1 Rayo Vallecano
Osasuna 4-0 Levante
Espanyol 0-1 Atlético Madrid
