Real Madrid lose, Barcelona win in Copa del Rey last-16 first round

Lionel Messi secured an away win for his club and took his impressive 2012 goal tally to 88 after scoring double against Córdoba CF. This win puts holders Barcelona in a driving seat ahead of the second leg of the Copa del Rey last-16.

Celta Vigo battled to an unexpected 2-1 victory over Real Madrid at the Estadio de Balaídos. Cristiano Ronaldo has netted the only Real Madrid goal in the dying stages of the game.

Atlético Madrid have met the expectations in a dominant win after they confidently overcame Getafe CF 3-0 at The Vicente Calderón Stadium. Two goals from Diego Costa helped his team to a victory.

Athletic Bilbao were eliminated from the tournament on away goals playing 1-1 draw with a modest Eibar in their postponed last-32 second round game.

Sevilla FC destroyed 5-0 RCD Mallorca to virtually guarantee themselves the place in the last-8 with Alvaro Negredo putting his name on the scoresheet twice.
