Real Madrid set to part ways with Mourinho ‘on mutual agreement’

Real Madrid are looking to part ways with Jose Mourinho on “mutual agreement”, confirmed president Florentino Perez at a press-conference at the Bernabeu stadium yesterday.

Mourinho arrived to Santiago Bernabeu from Inter Milan in 2010, winning Copa del Rey in debut season and claiming La Liga title next year. However this season proved to be nothing more than a disastrous campaign for the Portuguese, as his side finished this season without silverware, while he fell out with several Real Madrid players, including Real skipper Iker Casillas. It has been rumoured Mourinho tried to force his move from Santiago Bernabeu to join his former side Chelsea, with the Blues owner Roman Abramovich being keen on prospect of signing the most successful manager in the history of the club.

Perez said: “We’ve decided to bring our relationship with manager Jose Mourinho to an end at the end of the current season. The club and the manager have agreed the time is right to bring our relationship to an end.

“Nobody has been sacked, it’s by mutual agreement. And we have no pre-contract signed with any managerial candidate - it’s something we’ll look at in the coming days. When someone leaves Real Madrid there is something they are not happy about. But after three years it was the right time and we thank him for all his hard work,” he added.

Perez also said that he plans to run for the post of Real Madrid president again, with the elections to be held on June 16.
