Red Star Belgrade names Sa Pinto a new manager

The Serbian club appoints former Portugal international after Aleksandar Jankovic was sacked earlier this week.

The Portuguese tactician penned a 15-month agreement with the Red Star Belgrade . Previous manager Aleksandar Jankovic was dismissed on Monday following a 2-1 defeat to Radnicki Nis. Red Star lies second in the league 11 points behind league leaders Partizan, previously facing elimination from the Serbian Cup and Europa League.

“He was an outstanding player and I think he has the confidence to become an excellent coach. We have an option of extending Sa Pinto’s contract by another year if we are happy with the results, he knows the situation is difficult and will be given time to consolidate the team,” commented on the decision the club’s sports director Zoran Stojadinovic.
