On the road to the 2014 World Cup Brazil

The start to the qualification campaign for the 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil was given this weekend.

Group A

Wales 0-2 Belgium
The hosts suffered a defeat without scoring a goal at Cardiff City Stadium. Belgium’s Jan Vertonghen and Vincent Kompany led Belgiun to win their opening 2014 FIFA World Cup qualifying match.

Croatia 1-0 Macedonia
Nikica Jelavic only goal secured a 1-0 win against Macedonia at Maksimir Stadium in Zagreb.

Scotland 0-0 Serbia
Scotland and Serbia ended a goalless draw.

Group B

Malta 0-1 Armenia
Artur Sarkisov helped Armenia to win their 2014 World Cup qualifier.

Bulgaria 2-2 Italy
Pablo Daniel Osvaldo’s two goals helped Italy to a 2-2 draw. He scored twice to cancel out Stanislav Manolev’s opener and give his side the lead but Georgi Milanov’s equalizer brought the host from behind.

Denmark-Czech Republic 0-0
Both sides met in Copenhagen where they finished their opening FIFA World Cup qualifying game goalless.

Group C

Germany-Faroe Islands 3-0
Mario Gotze’s one goal and two from Mesut Ozil provided Germany with a notable 3-0 victory.

Kazakhstan-Republic of Ireland 1-2
Kairat Nurdauletov brought his team to 1-0 lead opening the score on the 37th minute but Keane produced a penalty on the 87th minute and Doyle used his chance in the dying seconds.

Group D

Netherlands 2-0 Turkey
Van Gaal’s side won 2014 FIFA World Cup qualifying against Turkey. Robin van Persie netted an opener and Luciano Narsingh doubled the score.

Andorra 0-5 Hungary
Hungary scored five goals and left Andorra at the Estadio Comunal de Aixovall without a chance.

Estonia 0-2 Romania
Two goals from Ciprian Marica and Gabriel Torje brought Romania to a 2-0 victory against Estonia in Tallinn.

Group E

Iceland 2-0 Norway
Iceland started their Brazil 2014 qualifying campaign with a solid victory over Norway.

Albania 3-1 Cyprus
Two late goals helped Albania to open their 2014 FIFA World Cup qualifying campaign with a victory over Cyprus.

Slovenia 0-2 Switzerland
Switzerland opened their 2014 FIFA World Cup qualifying campaign with victory scoring one goal in both halves against their rivals Slovenia in Ljubljana.

Group F

Russia 2-0 Northern Ireland
Viktor Fayzulin and Roman Shirokov’s goals led Fabio Capello’s side to victory over Northern Ireland in Moscow.

Luxembourg 1-2 Portugal
Daniel Da Mota Alves’s opener brought Luxembourg the lead but Real Madrid’s Cristiano Ronaldo cancelled it out with an equalizer and Helder Postiga netted a second.

Azerbaijan ended 1-1 draw against Israel.

Group G

Liechtenstein 1-8 Bosnia-Herzegovina
Bosnia-Herzegovina recorded the biggest victory of the night, scoring 8 goals against Liechtenstein.

Lithuania earned 1-1 draw with Slovakia.

Latvia 1-2 Greece
Greece managed to come from behind and secure the win over Latvia in their first 2014 FIFA World Cup qualifier.

Group H

Montenegro and Poland ended 2-2 draw.

Moldova 0-5 England
Four English men scored five goals, Frank Lampard netted a goal and a penalty shot, the others, who led the team to victory, were Jermain Defoe, James Milner and Leighton Baines.

Group I

Georgia 1-0 Belarus
A goal from Tornike Okriashvili gave Georgia victory over Belarus.

Finland 0-1 France
A French midfielder Abou Diaby scored the winning goal for France and secured a 1-0 victory over Finland.
