Senegal v Ivory Coast: fans violence stops the match

The qualifying match for African Nations cup in Dakar between Ivory Coast and Senegal was abandoned 18 minutes before time due to crowd trouble.

The second goal of the former Chelsea striker Didier Drogba sparkled violence among the fans that started lighting fires at the stands and throwing objects at the players and staff. The referee stopped the game due to disturbance and riot police moved in order to protect the players that grouped in the centre circle. The police fired tear gas at the crowd helping the players to flee the pitch.

A number of Premier League stars were involved in the game, including Demba Ba, Papiss Cisse, Mohamed Diame, Gervinho, Manchester City brothers Yaya and Kolo Toure and Cheick Tiote.

Senegal now faces the threat of being ejected from the tournament altogether.
