Serie A Matchday 19 Preview: Napoli vs AS Roma

Serie A Matchday 19 Preview: Napoli vs AS Roma

Matchday 19 fixtures represent the half-way mark of the Serie A season 2012-2013. One does not need to analyze the statistical reports to figure out the best Italian team at the moment. Juventus sit comfortably at the top of the table six points clear of their closest rivals Lazio. At the moment it seems that neither of the Serie A teams is capable to compete La Vecchia Signora in their chase for the second consecutive Scudetto. And yet there are several Serie A intrigues attracting anyone’s attention.

The clash between fifth-placed Napoli and sixth-placed Roma is undoubtedly one of them. The Wolves have secured an impressive 4-2 win over Milan in their last match of the year. They hope to produce the same excellent display of attacking football against Napoli they did at the Stadio Olimpico. Partenopei in turn have ended their 4-games losing streak at Siena’s expense. Currently Napoli are two points ahead of their table neighbors and are willing to widen the gap. Should Roma suffer defeat, their chances of grabbing the Champions’ League spot reduce to minimum.

Roma team news

Forward Pablo Osvaldo is a doubt for a clash against Napoli as he suffers from flu. Recent speculations have linked Russian midfielder Alan Dzagoev with a move to the Stadio Olimpico. However it seems that there is nothing in these rumors.

Napoli team news

Napoli are boasting clean bill of health and show their ambition to claim the Serie A title by chasing several quality players like Anderlecht Matías Suárez, Udinese Pablo Armero, and Cagliari Davide Astori. With almost everyone being convinced that Edinson Cavani is a certainty to leave the club in the summer, Napoli will for sure have more freedom in the transfer market with the money received from the Uruguayan sale. Napoli are considering Suárez as an ideal replacement for Cavani and are determined to bring him in January as his value will increase in summer.
