Solskjær Guides Molde to the Second Tippeligaen Title in a Row
39-year-old Man United legend Ole Gunnar Solskjær has led his side Molde to the second consecutive Norwegian Tippeligaen title.
Molde retained the Norwegian title on Sunday with a narrow 1-0 win over Hønefoss. Daniel Chukwu’s header brought Solskjær’s side a victory on a 59th minute. Their closest rivals Strømsgodset suffered a shock 2-1 defeat to Sandnes Ulf. The result gave Molde four-point lead over the second-placed Strømsgodset with a game remaining.
Solskjær’s leadership proved to be the defining factor in the Molde’s success, as it is under his rule that the team began demonstrating confidence and composure in every Tippeligaen match. The same cannot be said of Rosenborg, which have been the dominant force in the Norwegian football between 1990 and 2010. At this moment Trondheim side occupies third place with 52 points and could only finish second if they win the remaining game against Hønefoss and Strømsgodset lose to demotivated Stabæk.
