Southampton to hijack Liverpool deal to sign Coutinho

Southampton to hijack Liverpool deal to sign Coutinho

Daily Mirror informs that Southampton made a £10.2 million bid for Inter Milan Coutinho in the attempt to bring the 20-year-old attacking midfielder to the St Mary’s Stadium.

Liverpool were thought to be on the verge of signing the highly-rated Brazilian after making an improved £8 million bid, however the Saints have successfully hijacked the deal by outbidding their opponents. Inter Milan have given Southampton permission to speak to the player and now Liverpool need to match Southampton’s bid to stand a chance of making a switch for Coutinho.

New Southampton boss Maurico Pochettino knows Coutinho’s ability firsthand as he had the Brazilian attacking midfielder on loan at Espanyol last season.

Coutinho has made just 10 appearances for Inter Milan this season scoring one goal.
