Southampton to make a switch for Zarate, Firmino

Daily Mail informs that Southampton have turned their attention to Hoffenheim attacking midfielder Roberto Firmino and Lazio forward Mauro Zarate after losing the battle for the signature of Inter Milan Coutinho.

Southampton failed to sign the 20-year-old Brazilian after Liverpool made a final bid of £8.5million plus add-ons which was accepted by the Italian giants. Coutinho himself is said to be keen on move to the Anfield and has firmly rejected the offer from the Saints.

21-year-old Brazilian Firmino, who is valued at £7 million, joined Hoffenheim back in 2010 and has established himself as a first-team regular. He has made 19 appearances for his side this season scoring 3 goals and setting up another two.

The Argentina international Zarate, 25, has struggled to retain his best form for several years and was loaned out to Inter Milan for the entire season.
