Stam injury woe for Wigan

Stam injury woe for Wigan

Wigan’s chances of securing their Premier League status suffered a major blow with the news yet another defender Ronnie Stam could miss remaining crucial games due to injuries.

The Latics’ boss Roberto Martinez fears Stam suffered a broken leg in 3-2 defeat against Swansea on Tuesday. Stam came off the bench in the second half only to limp off the pitch several minutes later after a tough challenge. The Dutchman was not able to return and is poised to be on the sidelines for the remainder of the season, missing FA Cup Final and two Premier League games. He said: “We will check Ronnie tomorrow, but it seems it is a broken leg. He couldn’t put any weight on it, so he will need a scan tomorrow to find out exactly what it is.”

Martinez has also confirmed Jean Beausejour will also be definitely out of the remaining games through hamstring injury, stating: “Jean has a tear in his right leg. It will be difficult for him to be back before the season ends.”
