Steve McClaren resigns as Twente manager

Ex-England manager Steve McClaren has decided to walk out as Twente coach less than 24 hours after holding the talks with the club’s chairman Joop Munsterman.

Twente has been struggling in Dutch League, having not won a single game since December 21. The Saturday’s loss to Heerenveen has been the last straw to break camel’s back. McClaren said: “We have agreed it’s in the best interest of the club I leave. I leave a proud man. It has brought me one of the greatest days in my career when winning the title in 2010.”

McClaren has joined the club in 2007, after being sacked as England manager. He has led the Dutch side to the title in 2009-2010 season.
