Top 5 La Liga defenders according to FootballTop.com reader’s voting

The most popular Spanish football clubs in the world are Real Madrid and Barcelona. The teams know no limits in terms of finances and opportunities at transfer market and it is not surprising that their squads include the best La Liga players.
FootballTop.com presents Top 5 La Liga defenders according to our readers voting

1. Carles Puyol (Barcelona)

The captain of the Catalan club is one of the most charismatic European players. Apart from sumptuous hair and brutal appearances, the defender is also famous for his almost bullterrier grip. Puyola is the defender that does not really know what a “gentle tackle” means, he is harsh and determined in defense and that usually results in painful traumas and even fractures. Since 2004 and to this day the Puyol starts the matches with a captain’s armband and FootballTop.com users have also made him №1 not only in Spain, but also in the world.

2. Sergio Ramos (Real)

The player who was born in the Seville province and moved to Real 7 years ago is one of the clear favorites for football lovers. Today we have almost forgotten his spell in Sevilla and quiet rightly consider him as a symbol of the Spain champions. Real paid 30 million euros for a promising defender back in 2005, but that money without any doubt turned to be a clever investment.

3. Pepe (Real)

Bronze medal of the ranking takes one of the most aggressive and scandalous defenders of modern football Képler Laveran who is known to fans under a nickname Pepe. At the age of 18 the defender moved to Portugeese Marítimo, where Anatoliy Byshovets helped the gifted player to progress to the main squad. Pepe quickly showed that he could become a top-quality player. After a short stint in Porto, Pepe moved to Madrid where he became one of the most important players in the side.

4. Fabio Coentrão (Real)

One more Real Madrid player of Portuguese origin is one of the most stable defenders in the side. Los Blancos fans are even ready to forget little mischiefs of the youngster as the late nights and a cigarette at the party cannot hamper his progress to the highest level. The player is very strong both tactically and physically and is loved by the supporters.

5. Daniel Alves (Barcelona)

The second representative of Barcelona and the second footballer that started his European career in Sevilla FC is Daniel Alves. The right winger is often accused of being careless and rough in defense, but the player answers his critics with brilliant passes and hard work on pitch. The 5th place of public voting is probably a good response as well.
