Tottenham Adebayor set to be fined two-week wages for a late return from AFCON

Daily Mail states Tottenham striker Emmanuel Adebayor has stirred fans’ anger as he stayed in Africa for five days after his Togo national team has been eliminated from the African Nations Cup, despite his team experiencing firepower crisis.

Tottenham boss Andre Villas-Boas revealed the London side had to charter a private jet to guarantee the striker returns in time for Saturday’s clash against Newcastle. The Portuguese confirmed Tottenham are set to fine Adebayor two-week wages’ (a total of £160,000).

“Yes, (we sent a jet to get him),” Andre Villas-Boas said. “He arrived in Luton yesterday (Friday) around 6 o’clock and then joined the team at the hotel.”

Asked if the Spurs plan to punish their controversial striker, Tottenham boss said: “We shall, it is done, we won’t talk about it publicly.”
