Tottenham captain Dawson: Bale the best player in the world

The Spurs’ skipper Michael Dawson reckons his in-form teammate Gareth Bale to be the best player in the world at the moment.

Bale is enjoying form of his life, having scored his 20th goal of the season on Sunday to help his team to a well-deserved 2-1 win over bitter rivals Arsenal at the White Hart Lane. The media have compared his prolificacy to superstars like Messi and Ronaldo, who have scored more than 30 goals this season.

Some critics, like Manchester United centre-back Rio Ferdinand, disagree with such a praise, claiming Bale is not the same class as Ronaldo. However Dawson thinks such a comparison is fair enough.

He said: “Gaz is up there with Ronaldo and Messi in terms of ability - he’s one of the best players in the world at the moment, and probably the best in the world for me right now. Some of the things he does would have made Ronaldo blush. His goal this season against Norwich where he picked the ball up in his own half and dribbled past all those players before having the calm and composure to put in the bottom corner… He’s been brilliant and credit to him.”
