Tottenham in talks to sign Barcelona Villa
Tottenham boss Andre Villas-Boas flew to Barcelona to conduct the negotiations with Barcelona forward Villa over a possible move to White Hart Lane.
The Portuguese is keen on adding expanding his attacking options and hopes that he could persuade the player to make a switch to London after the personal talks with the player. Barcelona are reportedly prepared to allow their forward leave in search of the first-team football, as he is determined to earn Spain call-up ahead of the 2014 World Cup. That is why Villa may be willing to join the Spurs even though they failed to qualify for Champions League.
The 31-year-old could have joined Arsenal in January, but the deal fell through as the Gunners failed to reach the agreement as regards the transfer fee. The Blaugrana are unlikely to settle for anything less than £12 million.
Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy expressed the readiness to fund club’s pursuit of reaching Champions League next season by signing two quality strikers in summer.
