Transfer window closed
The top-flight clubs took shot at the most efficient football players to strengthen their squads before the transfer window closed on Friday.
A boom had been worked up just before the end of August, when a lot of important signings of the summer were completed.
The Premier League sides finished their transfers and many footballers made their adieu and became acquainted with their new teammates.
Manchester City made several deadline-day moves. Benfica Javi Garcia and Brazilian defender Maicon from Inter Milan joined the Blues. Scott Sinclair and Matija Nastasic left Swansea and Fiorentina respectively to sign for City at the close of the transfer window. City fans bid farewell to Roque Santa Cruz, who is sent out on loan to Malaga, Nigel de Jong, who joined Milan and Adam Jonson who moved to Sunderland.
Real Madrid signed Chelsea’s Michael Essien on a loan deal in an attempt to replace Lassana Diarra, who was loaned to Russian tycoons Anzhi. Yossi Benayoun and Andy Carroll were loaned to West Ham from Chelsea and Liverpool respectively.
This week three new arrivals joined Tottenham. Among them are France captain Hugo Lloris, who had played for Lyon and Fulham’s Mousa Dembele and Clint Dempsey. Rafael van der Vaart though rejoined his former club Harmburger.
Liverpool parted with Charlie Adam, who switched to Stoke City, and Jay Spearing, who joined Bolton.
Fulham signed two ex-Manchester United players, Dimitar Berbatov and Kieran Richardson. Wolverhampton striker Steven Fletcher got back to Barclays Premier League joining Sunderland and Matt Jarvis moved to West Ham.
QPR made several noteworthy signings. Esteban Granero moved from Real Madrid, Gaston Ramirez leaved Bologna and Stephane Mbia parted from Marseille to join the English club.
Chelsea bought Victor Moses from Wigan.
Pablo Hernandez joined Swansea from Valencia and Alvaro Pereira left Porto and moved to Inter.
