UEFA Champions League Group A, B and C openers on Tuesday night

The results of the opening night of the UEFA Champions League.

Group A

The Croatian Champions, GNK Dinamo Zagreb suffered a 0-2 home loss at FC Porto. The Portuguese champions were in total control of the night at Stadion Maksimir. Lucho Gonzalez scored an opener before half time and Steven Defour netted the other one in the dying minutes.

After eight-year absence Paris Saint-Germain FC returned to the Champions League earning a 4-1 win against FC Dynamo Kyiv at Parc des Princes. Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s penalty broke the deadlock and Thiago Silva netted the second goal from the corner. The third goal was from Alex. Miguel Veloso scored one for Dynamo Kyiv before Pastore struck in stoppage time.

Group B

Arsenal FC gained their three points after 2-1 win against Montpellier Hérault SC at the Stade de la Mosson. The Ligue 1 champions got the lead after a penalty from Younes Belhanda in eight minutes, but two goals just six and eight minutes after that overthrew the game. The Gunners’ Lukas Podolski scored an equalizer and Gervinho shut two minutes later.

FC Schalke 04 secured a 2-1 win against Olympiacos FC at the Karaiskakis Stadium. Benedikt Höwedes netted an opener on 41st minutes and the hosts equalized on 58th minutes through Djamel Abdoun. But the Bundesliga outfit regained the lead in a minute thanks to Klaas-Jan Huntelaar.

Group C

Málaga CF appeared in their first-ever Uefa Champions League group stage and earned three points as all their goals couldn’t find a response from FC Zenit St Petersburg. The 20-year old, Icso struck an opener in 3 minutes from start and added one more in the second half. Málaga’s recent signing, Javier Saviola, helped his new team with a goal.

The Serie A club AC Milan finished a 0-0 draw against RSC Anderlecht in their Champions League Group C opener on Tuesday night.
