UEFA Champions League results: yet another humiliation for Manchester United

Manchester United suffered another blow in Piraeus losing 2-0 in the most hapless manner. Zenit St. Petersburg are nowhere close to competitive European football.

Manchester United produced arguably their worst performance in years having not managed a sigle decent attack in 90 minutes against Olympiacos. Most of United’s passes came in front of their own goal and the team looked absolutely pathetic during the entire night. The Greek champions deserve a credit for high pressure they put on the visiting players throughout the field but they could have probably exploited the weaknesses of the English team to a better point if they had expected United to be so desperately poor. It was Alejandro Dominguez who opened the scoring on 38 minutes when he changed direction of Giannis Maniatis’ shot to deceive David de Gea. Arsenal loanee Joel Campbell outwitted Michael Carrick on 55 minutes and curled a stunning strike past Rio Ferdinand from outside the box to complete a deserved 2-0 victory against Premier League champions. All English teams, except Chelsea, who face Galatasaray on Wednesday, are on the brink of elimination from the top European competition after first legs.

Borussia Dortmund have all but qualified for the last eight stage after beating Zenit 4-2 in St. Petersburg. Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Marko Reus netted two goals just five minutes into the game. Oleg Shatov scored for the hosts on 57 minutes before Robert Lewandowski collected a brace. Hulk responded with a penalty goal. Zenit, who just retuned from winter break, did not look the part against one of Bundesliga leaders and last campaign finalists.

That is really sad, definitely the worst United performance in 20 years I've been watching them
