WBA's Steve Clarke faces selection headache ahead of clash against Southampton
West Brom have suffered a major blow with the news their skipper Chris Brunt is set to be sidelined for the forthcoming Premier League game against Southampton.
The 28-year-old winger failed to return to a full fitness following his knee injury, suffered during 1-1 draw with Newcastle. Brunt’s injury leaves the Hawthorns short of quality in attack as they are hoping to earn their first victory since the beginning of March.
West Brom boss Steve Clarke said: “Chris’ injury is a little bit of a concern for us. It would be nice to think he’ll only miss one game but there is a possibility he will miss more than one game. He’s not going to make it this week and it is fingers crossed for next week. Hopefully the medical department will do the job they’ve done all season and get him back quickly.”
Steve Clarke faces a selection headache, as Youssouf Mulumbu will miss the game due to being suspended, while Billy Jones remains doubt after sustaining another injury. He said: “It puts us down to the bare bones. But Youssouf will be available again next week. Billy picked up a really nasty gash on his leg and is doubtful. But I would be hopeful Billy will maybe make it.”
