Willian:"It's time for a new step in my life"

The Brazilian forward who moved from Shakhtar Donetsk to Anzhi Makhachkala for a reported fee of €35 million says he is grateful to the Ukrainian side.

The 24-year-old player was expected to sign for Chelsea, yet Willian selected Anzhi as his new destination. The striker explained that he was attracted to the team by “serious infrastructure and big goals” the Russian club has.

“Anzhi have a good team managed by one of the best managers in the world. I’m sincerely happy to be a football player for the Dagestani side,” stated the forward.

The Brazilian acknowledged the big role his former club played in his career, stating: “I stayed five and a half years in Donetsk. There were great people and great relationships within the team. We won countless titles and I wish success to my former team-mates.”

Anzhi stands second in the Russian top flight also playing in the knock-out stage of the Europa League.
